MID-ALTITUDE MOUNTAIN LAKE

Example Type:
Biome

Information:
Location: Mid-latitude
Climate: Temperate Forest
Season: Spring
Elevation: 3400 Feet

Notes:
Freshwater lakes occur at many levels of mountain ranges. As snow melts it will pool in any area that forms a basin. The main difference between a high-altitude lake and mid-altitude lake are the types of trees in the surrounding area. Because of the lower altitude, the trees often have wider leaves and trunks with less bark. Lower altitudes are not subject to the wide ranges in temperature that occur at higher elevations.
