Notes:
Many temperate forests have creeks running through the trees. The source of the water could be either snow runoff or groundwater seeping to the surface. These creeks are usually running at all times of the year. They are characterized by shady areas with slowly moving water in dry months and rushing, turbulent water in the rainy season. They usually support a temperature cooler than the surrounding area because of the forest cover and presence of water.
